Description:  With the refit program for 25 units, the service life of the Re 6/6 (Re 620) locomotives can be extended by at least 15 years until around 2035. During the refit, the cables will be completely renewed, the roof section will be refurbished and the transformers will be checked and overhauled, including complete refurbishment of the tap changer. The bogies are refurbished as part of the chassis overhauls. The renovated vehicles will be newly equipped with ETCS or the existing ETCS equipment will be replaced. The entire modernization including ETCS costs 1.8 million $ per locomotive.

Description:  One of the last Re 10/10 services in 2020 with 15'300 HP, as they are replaced by two more modern Vectron BR 193 with 17'400 HP together. "10/10" means that the two locomotives (Re 6/6 and Re 4/4 III, or in today designation Re 620 and Re 430) overall have 10 driven axles out of 10), is capable of pulling the maximum train weight of 1,300 tonnes (1,300 long tons; 1,400 short tons) on 2.6% gradients of the Gotthard line.

Description:  The Re 620 was built to climb the Swiss mountain mainlines with the heaviest trains, while reducing the number of engines on each train. The requirement specifications stated that it should be able to haul (alone) 800 metric tonnes on the 2.6% grades of the Gotthard at track speed. The series was built in 1972 (4 prototypes), and 1975-1980 (85 units).
