Description:  In March 2003 a contract was awarded to Siemens Mobility for the rebuilding of three Class 3200 into Class 3700 locomotives as prototypes for a proposed rebuild of the entire class. The work was undertaken at United Group, Townsville. The 3100/3200 are electric locomotives built by Comeng with Hitachi supplying the electrical equipment. Two separate classes were built between 1986 and 1989, 19 Class 3100 command units that could lead trains, and 67 Class 3200 slave units.

The locomotive is to be equipped on the one hand with a pantograph for driving on electrified routes and with a battery for non-electrified routes. After successful confirmation of the feasibility, a prototype will be created in a pilot conversion in 2021. Description:  The Xtmas are self-propelled (diesel-hydraulic drive) and consist of a resque unit (with platform), a tank and an equipment unit. The tank and the equipment vehicles have each a fire extinguishing equipment on the cab roof. The maximum speed when traveling alone is 100 kph / 62 mph. The fire fighting truck has a water tank with 45,000 liters and a tank for foam extract with 1,500 liters.

Description:  All cab cabins are pressure-tight and have a breathing air supply that creates an overpressure. In the cabs of the equipment vehicle and the tank unit (which are back to back as seen in the picture), a control panel for the fire extinguishing technology is additionally installed. The 4-unit trains have an extra rescue unit at the end for tunnel operation. Each of it can take up to 60 people or 40 and 6 on strechers. It has connections for the supply of medical oxygen to patients.

Description:  A US inspired badge of the rescue organisation at Melide station. Intervention’s sites are located in a way that enables intervention teams to reach any point on the railway network within 15 to 30 minutes. The fire-fighting and rescue trains’ teams have their quarters at these sites and are 7/24h on alert readyness. This way, they can be ready for action within only a few minutes even during the night.

Description:  With the refit program for 25 units, the service life of the Re 6/6 (Re 620) locomotives can be extended by at least 15 years until around 2035. During the refit, the cables will be completely renewed, the roof section will be refurbished and the transformers will be checked and overhauled, including complete refurbishment of the tap changer. The bogies are refurbished as part of the chassis overhauls. The renovated vehicles will be newly equipped with ETCS or the existing ETCS equipment will be replaced. The entire modernization including ETCS costs 1.8 million $ per locomotive.
