National Rail Museum Portugal - CP 855
Title:  National Rail Museum Portugal - CP 855
Description:  These locomotives were of typical American design, inspired by the North American “locomotives of war”, where the cowcatcher, riveted smokebox door and American pavilion featured. Taken as a whole, it did not match the size of the smaller tender it ran with. This reduction in length was the solution found in order to fit on existing turntables at various stations in Portugal and to respect weight limits on many bridges. They were withdrawn 1968.

National Rail Museum Portugal - CP 2501
Title:  National Rail Museum Portugal - CP 2501
Description:  In the 50’s, CP was definitely beginning to focus on the electrification of some sections of its network. The choice fell on the AC 25kV / 50 Hz technology. With this project in progress it became necessary to acquire new electric locomotives. In March 1955, CP ordered to the Groupment d’Étude et d’Électrification de Chemins de Fer en Monophasé 50 Hz 15 electric locomotives for mixed line services of the B’o B’o type to become the class CP 2500. The first two locomotives arrived to Portugal in 1956 from Germany and were manufactured by Henschel. Most of the other units were manufactured in France. The last unit to be withdrawn from service was the 2512 in March 2009. (by sudexpressmodels.eu)

National Rail Museum Portugal - CP 2551
Title:  National Rail Museum Portugal - CP 2551
Description:  The electrification of the Portuguese Railways was developed under the Planos de Fomento. The 2500 series electric locomotive was placed in service in 1957, under the First part of the Plan. Part two had the objective of lead north the electrification of the North line, as well as the acquisition of more rolling stock, with higher incorporation of National industry. To this end, SOREFAME engineering department designed a 2500 stainless steel casing for a locomotive with the same characteristics as the 2500. In 1963, the prototype locomotive was built and sent to trials. It was given the number 2551. In view of the positive results, CP commissioned the construction of another 19. They began to be delivered in September 1964. These 20 units would form the 2550 series. They were placed immediately ahead of the noblest services. The rapid trains to Porto began to present 100% stainless steel rolling stock. The 2550’s were used in most inaugural trains of the sections that were electrified from then. (by xtrain24.de)
