Album Info:The Swiss Suedostbahn Ltd (Swiss South Eastern Railway) is a small Swiss private railway, i.e. jointly owned by the cantonal and federal governments as an limited company (AG). At the end of 2001, the previous SOB merged with the Bodensee-Toggenburg-Bahn (BT) to form the Suedostbahn (SOB). It operates between Romanshorn on Lake Constance via St. Gallen, Herisau, Degersheim, Wattwil, and Ebnat-Kappel to Nesslau-Neu Sankt Johann in northeast Switzerland to Rapperswil via Seedamm, Pfaeffikon SZ, Biberbrugg to Arth-Goldau in Central Switzerland. The Voralpen Express (VAE, Pre-Alpine Express), a named train, is connecting medium sized cities in central and eastern Switzerland in operation since 1991. It is jointly operated by Suedostbahn and the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). It runs every hour as an InterRegio (IR) express train from Lucerne to St. Gallen, continuing as regional train to Romanshorn. The journey takes 2 hours and 42 minutes. In addition, the SOB operates the S-Bahn Zurich lines between Einsiedeln and Waedenswil (S13) and to Rapperswil (S40). The fleet consist of 53 units of electric locomotives, EMU and tractors as well as 141 coaches and cabcars. It transported 2010 13 mio. passengers.

For the first time in Swiss passenger locomotive construction the electric converter technology was implemented with the serie 456. Here two SOB trains crossing each other, left the 45692 pushing at regional express train to Lucerne, while on the right 456095 came in opposite direction to eastern Switzerland. Both show promotion livery, the 092 promotes for the Police School of eastern Cantons in Switzerland, the 095 shows the selfpromotion livery of 100 years of SOB.

The abbey is dedicated to Our Lady of the Hermits. In 1854 a colony from the Einsiedeln abbey was sent to the United States to minister to the local German-speaking population. From St. Meinrad Archabbey, St. Meinrad, Indiana, which was the first settlement, daughter-houses were founded and in 1881 these were formed into the Swiss-American Congregation, which now comprised 15 monasteries from Canada in the north down to Guatemala.
