Album Info:The Black Forest Railway (Schwarzwaldbahn) is a twin-track, electrified railway line in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, running in a NW-SE direction to link Offenburg with Singen/Constance. Passing directly across the Black Forest, through spectacular scenery, the route is 150 km long, ascends 650 metres from lowest to highest elevation, and passes through 39 tunnels and over 2 viaducts. It is still the only true mountain railway in Germany, it was built between 1863 and 1873. The second line is the Hell Valley Railway (Höllentalbahn), a railway from Freiburg im Breisgau to Donaueschingen also through the Black Forest in Baden-Wurttemberg. Part of the route has a 5.5% gradient, making the line one of the steepest in Germany. The line crosses a main European watershed, between the Rhine drainage basin (flowing into the North Sea) and the Danube drainage basin (flowing into the Black Sea). More details about those steep forest hill tracks will be in the pictures description.
