UK HST: Class 800 - Great Western Railway
Title:  UK HST: Class 800 - Great Western Railway
Description:  Bi-mode trains Class 800 for 125 mph are trains with a dual electric and diesel propulsion capability. The trains can run on electrified routes using the catenary as power source, allowing for a smooth transition to non-electrified routes, where diesel powerpacks provide tractive power. The engine, generator, radiator, and other components are installed as a package to save space, and mounted under the floor. The Class 800 trains came into service on the Great Western Main Line on 16 October 2017.

Title:  UK HST: Class 802 - Great Western Railway
Description:  The British Rail Class 800/802 is a type of bi-mode multiple unit designed and produced by Hitachi for use in the United Kingdom on the Great Western Main Line since October 2017. They use electric motors for traction, but in addition to operating on track with overhead electric wires, they have diesel generators to enable them to operate on unelectrified track. Based on the Hitachi A-train design, the trains have been built by Hitachi since 2014.

UK HST: Class 802 - Great Western Railway
Title:  UK HST: Class 802 - Great Western Railway
Description:  The shape of the Class 802, 125 mph, front-end cars features a “One Motion Form” (a Japanese expression meaning streamlined) design suitable for high-speed rolling stock. And, in addition to environmental measures for reducing air resistance and noise, it features a collision safety structure that complies with the latest European standards. It also incorporates an automatic coupling system that shortens the time taken to couple or uncouple trains while stopped at a station.

UK HST: Class 802 - Great Western Railway
Title:  UK HST: Class 802 - Great Western Railway
Description:  The Class 802s are broadly identical to the Class 800 bi-mode trains used in the Intercity Express Programme, and are used in a similar way; they run as electric trains where possible, and are equipped with the same diesel generator engines as the Class 800. However, they utilise higher engine operating power – 700 kW (940 hp) per engine as opposed to 560 kW (750 hp) – and are fitted with larger fuel tanks to cope with the gradients and extended running in diesel mode expected on the long unelectrified stretches they will operate on.
